Baltimore Job Hunters Support Group

The transition from unemployment to employment and/or from school to employment can be stressful, frustrating, and fraught with failure. Baltimore Job Hunters Support Group (BJHSG)  will recruit unemployed workers and identify them by generational membership, assembling mutual mentoring groups with a minimum of two members from each generation represented. The groups will meet monthly for one year, with half of the meetings occurring online and the others at rotating sites in represented communities.

Mentoring can enhance a person's odds of gaining full-time employment, providing access to larger networks and helping to navigate challenging workplace situations, increasing a worker's attachment to employment. We want to assist people in finding and retaining gainful employment and/or discovering and developing multiple streams of income to support themselves. At the same time, we will assist people in focusing on the larger picture of social and economic issues by incorporating the concepts of critical consciousness, accountability, and self-empowerment.
