Precious Blake, Arts Every Day

Precious's Fellowship:

Precious Blake is the Development and Administrative Assistant for Arts Every Day. She will be responsible for managing their marketing and organizational communication, supporting the executive director in securing sponsorships that will fund programming and initiatives, and coordinating special events and programs such as their tenth year celebration in 2017. Lastly, she will also be managing their individual donor communication and outreach.

Background:

Precious is from Westchester, NY and came to Baltimore four years ago to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. Her illustration practice has focused on visual journalism and reportage, which culminated into a seventy page illustrated book entitled “Creatives of Color” for her senior thesis. The book highlights thirty Baltimore creatives and their processes, challenges, voices, and journeys in finding inclusive spaces for themselves and others. This past year she was an Urban Arts Leadership Program (UALP) Fellow through the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance as part of their 2015/2016 cohort. Under this fellowship, Precious was placed with Arts Every Day for a six month fellowship. She is passionate about being a leader in arts administration by partnering with the creative community of Baltimore to facilitate social change.

Why do you choose to live and work in Baltimore?  

I chose to come to Baltimore at first for my education. I could tell it was a city that had an interwoven and a tight knit arts community throughout all its sectors. When I first visited, there was an an enlivening sense that there was a silently growing renaissance happening. In and out of school I collaborated with innovative, creative, and forward thinking individuals and organizations that were dedicated to problem solving from the inside out. I decided to stay after school because Baltimore embraced me with open arms and I wanted to continue those relationships that I had begun to build.

What's one surprising fact about yourself?  

I studied abroad in Lisbon, Portugal last year and went on a road trip along the coast with a couple of friends. We accidentally (intentionally) drove into Spain for a day without any one checking our passports. I know that happens pretty often, but I felt like a true rebel.
