David Fakunle, Baltimore City Health Department

David's Fellowship:

David is a Policy, Community Engagement and Outreach Fellow at the Baltimore City Health Department. David's roles include developing a more holistic community engagement framework, attending community-led events throughout Baltimore, assisting in the guidance of funding opportunities for the Health Department, and providing insight on policy recommendations and initiatives.

Background:

David was born and raised in Baltimore, and other than a few occasions has lived nowhere else. While participating in Baltimore Corps, David is also completing his doctorate in Mental Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. David is motivated by his upbringing in Baltimore, and specifically how opportunities molded him into a dynamic force for change. He is confident that if others are given those same opportunities, Baltimore as a city will be a dynamic force for change. In addition to being a professional "disruptor of the system," David actively participates in the performing arts as an African drummer, African storyteller, singer, actor, dancer, and public speaker.

Why do you choose to live and work in Baltimore?

I choose to REMAIN in Baltimore because this is my home and the city that made me who I am. I want to change the system so that every person has the capacity and opportunity to be the best version of themselves, as I have been blessed to do.

What's one surprising fact about yourself?

I took nine years of Russian between middle school, high school and college.
