Charlotte James, Code in the Schools
Charlotte's Fellowship:
After years working in grassroots homelessness and harm reduction advocacy, Charlotte is taking a new approach to social justice. As a Corps member, Charlotte will serve as the Communications Director for Code in the Schools, a social enterprise that brings high quality computer programming classes to the under-served and under-represented youth of Baltimore City. Charlotte will be helping CitS scale by interfacing with key networks throughout the city, recruiting new sites for after school programs, and increasing social media presence.
Background:
In West Philadelphia born and raised (literally) Charlotte has come back to Baltimore after a year long hiatus abroad. In her time abroad Charlotte was able to refocus her passions and, while observing the uprising from afar, realized her activist heart and soul were still in Baltimore. Charlotte believes that the zip code you are born in should not determine the trajectory of your life and that by working together as a city, we can erase the physical and ideological borders that divide us and ensure that every Baltimorean has access to opportunity.
Why do you choose to live and work in Baltimore?
Baltimore is my adopted hometown. The people, the food, the beer, it's all great!
What's one surprising fact about yourself?
My dad emigrated from Jamaica as a young adult so I'm a first-gen kid.
