B'broad

B’Broad is an adventure-based environmental education program for Baltimore’s Black and Brown youth. Our aim is to expose them to careers in conservation through, high impact and culturally relevant, outdoor exploration.

People of color (POC)  as stakeholders in the environmental movement have been excluded since the establishment of National Parks in 1872. As a direct manifestation of this, coupled with historic exclusionary laws during the Jim Crow era, POC only represent 22% of the environmental workforce and young POC are 3 times less likely to study "green" STEM majors.

Therefore, the barriers to equitable access to experiential learning in conservation are numerous for Black and Brown youth. As this nation shifts to include more people of color, B’Broad is empowering the experience of Black and Brown youth in nature as future conservation leaders.
